The five most impactful things you can do for your business when life’s getting on top of you
Anyone else’s stress levels peaking right now?
If you’re a self-employed mum like me, you probably feel pulled in different directions during the school holidays. The kids need you, but your business needs you too - and you end up feeling like you’re not nailing either of your jobs all that well.
We’re a week in, and I think I need this as much as anyone else does: what are the most important things I can do to keep my business going when I’m completely overwhelmed by my other responsibilities?
1. Take the opportunity to be honest with yourself and your community
Take a minute to reflect about how you’re feeling, maybe get the journal out to make sense of it. I find that reflecting on everything helps me be honest with myself and kinder to myself too. It’s in that moment I often find that I want to let my guard down and be honest with my community and it’s in those moments that the most impactful connection happens. You’re human, your community is human, and there’s something powerful in sharing that humanity!
2. Ruthlessly deprioritize
A mile-long to-do list isn’t helping anybody - especially when you don’t have the capacity to make a dent in it! Filter off your list with things that *if you’re honest with yourself* can wait. Focus on the tasks that can make you money, and stop you from losing money. Stability is the goal in the midst of chaos, growth can wait a minute.
3. Take twenty-five
The Pomodoro technique comes in clutch when I’m short on time and feeling overwhelmed - watch how much work you can get done against a ticking clock! I love this one!
4. Use your analytics
If you’re not actively monitoring what’s moving the needle in your digital marketing efforts, now’s the perfect time to start! What’s working on socials? On email? What’s selling well? Which ads are working? Now’s not the time for experimenting - double down on what you know is going to work!
5. Dig into the archives
You don’t need to create new content right now! Repurpose old footage, repost old content - if it was a hit, it might fly again, if it flopped, rework it (with what you’ve learned from your analytics) and try again!
We’ve got this!!
